Experience Prior to IGNFA

Sh. Kamaljeet Singh holds a Master's degree in Environment Science and has vast experience in forestry administration, wildlife management, remote sensing, policy formulation and governance. He started his career in Bihar and served as DFO in Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary and Rohtas Forest Division, and later as DF0-cum-Deputy Director, Valmiki Tiger Reserve, where he was awarded the State Honour in Wildlife Management. On deputation to Forest Survey of India, Dehradun from September 2013, he contributed significantly towards development of Web-based Decision Support Systems for Forest Clearance proposals and strengthening of the e-Green Watch Portal. During this period, he also worked closely with premier institutions including llRS Dehradun, NRSC Hyderabad and SAC Ahmedabad, besides receiving training in SAR Data at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA. He has good knowledge in the field of Remote Sensing & GlS. Thereafter, he held several important positions in the Government of Bihar, including Director, Patna Zoo; Chief Conservator of Forests (Working Plan & IT); Director in the Rural Development Department; CEO, State Nledicinal Plant Board; and Member Secretary, SEIAA, Bihar.

Since April 2024, he served as DIG (Forest) in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, handling Forest Policy, NAEB and CAMPA divisions, and was subsequently empaneled as Joint Secretary to the Government of India in July 2025.
