Workshop on “Best practices in coastal and marine resource management and challenges” held in Lakshdweep islands

A national level workshop on “Best practices in coastal and marine resource management and challenges” jointly organized by the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun, Lakshadweep Administration and United Nations Development Program was held in Kaveratti, Lakshadweep from 5.4.2016 to 7.4.2016 for IFS officers of the Coastal States and Union Territories. The program was inaugurated in conference hall of Secretariat, Lakshadweep Administration on 5.4.2016. The inaugural session was chaired by Mr. Vinod Kumar, Director, IGNFA and Mr. G. Ashok Kumar, Secretary, Forests, Lakshadweep. Senior IFS officers from Gujarat, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Andaman and Nicobar islands and Lakshdweep Islands and Faculty Members of the IGNFA participated in the program and made presentations on best coastal resource management practices followed in their respective states and on thematic issues. Ms. Lianchawii, Programme Analyst from UNDP also made a presentation on UNDP contribution to the capacity building activities in the coastal front. Besides class room sessions, the participants visited Pitti Bird Sanctuary, exposed to marine biodiversity by scuba diving techniques and other field activities.
