A two-day workshop on “Forest Land Records Modernization-FMIS & GIS Application with Decision Support Systems for Ecosystem Management”
for officers of Indian Forest Service (IFS) who have completed 25 years of service (IFS-1990 Batch) was organized by Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy,
Dehradun from 21st & 22nd January, 2016. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Vinod Kumar, Director IGNFA Dehradun.
Three technical sessions on the following themes were held.
Technical Session I: Forest Management Information System.
Technical Session II: Land Record Modernization.
Technical Session III: GIS Application with decision support system for effective management of natural resources.
In the technical session, eminent speakers who were having vast experience in the field of FMIS, GIS, Land record digitization and modernization gave lead presentation which was followed by experience sharing by the participants and discussion.
Group working on the following sub-themes were also organized for deliberation among participants.
Group-I : Forest Land Records Modernization and its integration with revenue and other records, judicial acceptance issues
Group-II : FMIS and its implementation in states issues and prospects
Group-III : Sustainable Forest Management and providing livelihood to Forest Dependent communities using GIS decision support systems in India - successes and challenges
The workshop also provided an opportunity to the IFS Probationers in the Academy to interact with the senior officers. A total of 37 officers participated in the workshop.
