Along with the rest of the world, the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy observed World Environment Day 2012 on 5th June with a brief programme at the New Hostel auditorium that was attended by the Director, IGNFA, Addl. Director, IGNFA, faculty members and probationers.
Faculty and probationers delivered short talks on the World environment day, its history, evolution and significance and the current year’s theme, “green economy: does it include you?”
The issue of the life of tribals and their intimate relationship with forests vis-à-vis the concept of green economy and also the possibilities and challenges of harmonizing conservation and socio-economic development were dealt with. Innovative suggestions like car pooling by faculty, waste segregation and disposal, provisioning of solar water heaters and installation of solar powered lights within academy premises were brought up and discussed with the prospect of giving the academy a greener edge.
